Police will have an extra presence on the roads this weekend in preparation for New Year’s Eve, so plan ahead and make good choices so that you don’t end up with a DWI.
As we noted in a previous blog, Minnesota police will be conducting extra DWI patrols through the weekend and during the holiday to help keep our roads safe. But where will they be stationed so that you can avoid a DWI?
According to a news release, police have noted that more than 280 agencies will be taking part in the enhanced DWI patrols during the New Year’s holiday. There will not be any specific areas of major focus, but know that law enforcement will be working together in order to keep all of our roads safe from drunk drivers. In other words, while there won’t be DWI checkpoints, you can expect an added police presence all over the state. If you drive drunk this weekend, know that you have a much greater likelihood of getting a DWI. Now is the time to plan ahead so that you know how you are getting home without having to get behind the wheel after drinking and driving.
New Years DWI
Don’t start the year off on the wrong foot with a DWI charge. You already know that police will be out in full force looking for drunk drivers and other driving infractions, so don’t put yourself in a position where you could run into trouble. Between the light rail, buses and rideshare options, there is simply no reason to get behind the wheel if you’ve been drinking on New Year’s Eve.
You can also expect heavier traffic in the metro area on New Year’s Eve this year as a result of the Vikings-Packers game that will be taking place on Sunday night. It’s very possible that the game will be ending within hours of midnight, and there’s a good chance that more than a few of those drivers will have drank too much alcohol at the game. Busier roads and a higher percentage of drunk drivers is a recipe for disaster, so make some plans ahead of time so that you aren’t one of the hundreds of Minnesotans who will be arrested or involved in an automobile accident this weekend.
