Nearly 40,000 Americans were killed in traffic accidents in 2024, and the summer time can be particularly deadly. July 4th weekend has historically been the deadliest stretch on the roads, but Labor Day comes in a close second, and traffic deaths on the end-of-summer holiday have increased in recent years. In 2023, 511 people died during the Labor Day holiday period, up from 496 in the previous year. More than one-third of these accidents involved at least one person driving drunk.
So as you make your way back from your Labor Day destination, drive safely, put the distractions down and be aware of your surroundings. Minnesotans are pretty good at that, but how do we stack up to the rest of America? We take a closer look at the most dangerous states for driving in 2025 in today’s blog.
Safest And Most Dangerous States For Driving
To get a better understanding of the safest and most dangerous states for Labor Day driving in 2025, the lawyers at Munley Law crunched some important numbers. They analyzed seven specific federal factors to help guide their data:
- Motor vehicle traffic fatalities per 100,000 residents
- DUI arrest rates per 100,000 residents
- Fatal car crashes where the driver had a BAC at or over 0.08 per 100,000 residents
- Fatal crashes involving speeding per 100,000 residents
- Pedestrians killed by motor vehicles per 100,000 residents
- Motor carrier traffic violations per 100,000 residents
- Percentage of motorists in the state who are uninsured
