We’re pleased to announce that our team at Appelman Law Firm will once again be participating in the annual “Our Hearts To Your Soles” charity event here in the Twin Cities.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with Our Hearts To Your Soles, it’s an annual event that provides shoes, socks, hats, flu shots, medical screenings and legal advice to homeless and financially burdened individuals in our own backyard. This year’s event is located at the Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation Saint Paul Opportunity Center and Dorothy Day Residence at 422 Dorothy Day Place in St. Paul. The event is scheduled for 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 26th.
Financial support for the event is provided by my friend and colleague Dr. Lance Silverman of Silverman Ankle & Foot, and it’s an event we look forward to every year. Our team will be on hand to provide free legal advice to any attendees who have questions or want advice on a specific court situation.
Free Legal Advice
One of the reasons why we love participating in this event is because we get to connect with a group of people who are often abused by the court system. These individuals may not have the financial ability to pay small fines or appear in court very easily, and missed payments or appearances can make small issues snowball into huge problems. A small fine left unpaid can even lead to jail time, so we want to help those who are having trouble navigating the legal system.
It’s also a very rewarding night, as the vast majority of attendees are so thankful for our assistance and the generosity of all the volunteers and sponsors. We love giving back because the attendees are so happy to have the opportunity to sit down and talk with someone who is one their side, even if it’s only for a few minutes. We’ve helped clear up court cases, answer questions about laws and point them in the right direction for all their legal needs. We look forward to this event each and every year.
This year’s event will be honoring David Lewis, and orthotist who worked at a number of the past Our Hearts To Your Soles events here in the Twin Cities. Sadly, David passed away unexpectedly this month, and Dr. Silverman and event planners wanted to honor his memory this year. That’s why the 2019 event will officially be known as the David Lewis Memorial Our Hearts To Your Soles Event.
If you’re interested in volunteering for this wonderful event, please reach out to Rachel at rachel@anklefootmd.com. We need help with setup, cleanup and during the event itself, so if you’re free for an hour or two next Tuesday, please consider contacting Rachel. Maybe we’ll see you there!
