Happy Valentine’s Day! The Hallmark Channel makes Valentine’s Day seem like it’s all love and roses, but unfortunately that’s not the case. For some people, Valentine’s Day can lead them to make some poor decisions that leads to an arrest. In today’s blog, we take a closer look at three of the most common arrests that are a direct result of Valentine’s Day
Common Arrests On Valentine’s Day
We always tend to see a slight uptick in these types of arrests in and around Valentine’s Day.
1. Drunk Driving – A lot of people like to celebrate Valentine’s Day with a nice dinner out at a restaurant, and oftentimes that also involves some wine or adult beverages. If you’re enjoying the food and conversation, it’s easy to order another glass or split another bottle and all of a sudden you’re over the legal driving limit. Others may choose to drink to forget about an ex-girlfriend or failed relationship on Valentine’s Day, and if they get behind the wheel afterwards, it can be a disaster. If you’re going to be drinking alcohol tonight, strongly consider leaving the driving to someone else, like an Uber or Lyft.
2. Domestic Abuse – Valentine’s Day can also lead to heightened tension for other reasons among couples, and that can make it more likely that a domestic abuse situation occurs. Similar to the above point, alcohol can also lead to domestic fights or even situations of physical violence, so if you’re dealing with a jealous or abusive partner, Valentine’s Day can be a difficult time. Police will undoubtedly be called to a number of difference residences this evening to help deescalate some domestic situations. 3. Stalking – Valentine’s Day can also be scary if you have an ex or someone from a previous relationship who simply can’t move on. Jealous ex partners may not be able to cope with the fact that you’ve moved on and are seeing other people, and they may go online and harass a person or even stalk them in real life. While stalking crimes aren’t all that common, they are more likely to be committed on or around Valentine’s Day.
