According to a new report by Insurify.com, drivers of one specific truck are the most likely to have a DUI on their criminal record.
As you can probably guess, it’s more likely that someone driving certain truck brands are more likely to have a DUI conviction on their record compared to some types of minivans. Certain vehicles are more popular with different audiences, and as we’ve discussed on the blog in the past, certain demographics, like young, white males, are more likely to be booked for a DUI than women in their sixties. Therefore, vehicle brands that are popular among this demographic will likely mean that these vehicles get pulled over for more DUI stops. With that being said, we’re going to use today’s blog to look at the five vehicles who have drivers with the highest rate of DUIs.
DUIs By Vehicle Type
One truck stood out from the rest in terms of DUI rate. According to the statistics, there are an average of 45.3 drivers with DUIs on their record for every 1,000 drivers of Dodge Ram 2500 trucks. In other words, about one in every 22 Dodge Ram 2500 drivers has a drunk driving conviction on their record. The national average is one in 56 drivers, meaning Dodge Ram 2500 drivers are more than twice as likely to have a DUI conviction on their record compared to all other drivers on the road.
Here’s a closer look at the vehicles that round out the top five.
2. Chevrolet S-10 – 35.9 drivers with a DUI per 1,000.
3. BMW 4 Series – 31.7 per 1,000
4. Audi A4 – 31.1 per 1,000
5. Dodge Dakota – 30.5 per 1,000
And as we’ve talked about on the blog in the past, simply driving one of these vehicles does not give police enough evidence to conduct a traffic stop to see if you are under the influence. They may watch you a little closer to see if you’ll commit a traffic infraction, but they can’t just pull you over on a whim and see if you’re drunk just because you’re driving a Dodge Ram 2500. If they stop you without reasonable suspicion, you can have the case thrown out, no matter what evidence was collected during the traffic stop because the entire stop will be considered illegal.
So if you or someone you know has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol while driving a Dodge Ram 2500 (or any other vehicle for that matter), pick up the phone and give the criminal defense team at Appelman Law Firm a call at (952) 224-2277 to learn more about your legal options.
