We love when potential clients reach out to see if we would be a good fit for their case, but we don’t take every case that comes our way. It’s not that we enjoy turning away clients, but we want to help you make the best decision for yourself, and sometimes that doesn’t involve partnering up with our firm. We explain why we don’t take every case that comes our way and show an example of why we do this in today’s blog.
Turning Away Clients
When it comes to accepting clients, there’s no perfect formula for determining who we will take on as a client. Obviously we like cases that appear winnable or where we believe there was a clear injustice, but we also like to take on clients who are open and honest about the challenges they are facing. We ask our clients to be open and honest with us, because we try to be the same way with them.
Take this example about honesty, and it shows why we don’t take every client that calls our firm.
“I am an Illinois resident who was traveling from Brookings, South Dakota, where speed limit is 80, to Minneapolis. I was listening to a great audiobook and lost track of location and the speed limit. I was stopped by a Minnesota State Police Officer and giving a speeding citation. Researching my options I contact Avery Appelman about my situation.
After sharing my experience and circumstance, he said I would be better off trying to contact the County Attorney rather than he doing it. He said he didn’t want to charge his fee when he wasn’t sure he could get it changed, and more importantly, it was something I could do without the expense.
For me, who has an exemplary driving record but also have two children driving, any expense would be substantial to my insurance. I appreciate Avery’s honesty, patience and assistance. Regardless of how my case is resolved, it was comforting to know there are ethical and compassionate attorneys like Mr. Appelman.
I would advise anyone who is faced with more serious charges to definitely consult him.”
We’re all about helping people at Appelman Law Firm, and we want to make sure your investment is worth it. If the odds of getting the citation dropped are low, it doesn’t always make sense for you to pay money to an attorney to fight the case on your behalf. We’ll gladly point you in the right direction so you can make a smart financial decision. Oftentimes that decision involves hiring a defense lawyer, but when it doesn’t, we’ll explain why and do our best to give you the resources you need to succeed on your own.
For a free consultation about your case, including whether or not you may benefit from hiring a defense lawyer, call Avery and the team at Appelman Law Firm today at (952) 224-2277.
