Nobody wants to spend a night in jail, but Christmas is arguably the worst night of the year to have to sit behind bars. So what should you do if you make a mistake and end up in handcuffs on Christmas Eve? We explain how to handle a Christmas arrest in today’s blog.
Arrested On Christmas
Christmas Eve and Christmas Day arrests are more common than you might imagine. Arrest levels aren’t out of the norm, but at the same time, an officer isn’t going to let a suspected drunken driver off with a warning just because it’s Christmas Eve. A lot of people have Christmas Day off form work, and that can lead to some poor decisions if alcohol gets involved, so a Christmas Eve arrest isn’t out of the question for many.
Hopefully you’ll never need this advice, but it’s always good to have information in your back pocket just in case you need it. Here’s what you should do if you’ve been arrested on Christmas.
1. Silent Night – Don’t admit to anything or talk to police in hopes that they’ll let you go because you cooperated. If you are a suspect, the police are actively working to build a case against you. Don’t say anything that could be used against you in the court of law.
2. Contact A Lawyer – The only person you should be talking to is a lawyer. If you get a chance to make a phone call, pick up the phone and call Avery and the team at Appelman Law Firm. Aside from answering our phones 24 hours a day, seven days a week, we’ll also be able to work swiftly at getting you out of jail. Oftentimes we can secure your release within hours so you can get back to your family and regain some semblance of normalcy in your life. We can also get in contact with your family and inform them of the situation if you have limited phone calls to make.
3. Let Us Go To Work – Once you’ve contacted a lawyer, just sit back and let us do our thing. Again, talking or giving a statement will only hurt your case, so let us get to the county jail and begin to process of getting you released. Once we’ve got you free, we’ll set up a time to sit down and go over your case and explain how we plan to get the charges reduced or dropped. We’ll set that up for later and give you a few tips for what you should be doing in the meantime until our next meeting. For the time being, just lay low and try to get back to a normal life.
So if you’re arrested on Christmas, just remain silent until you get a chance to call a lawyer, and you’ll be putting yourself in the best position to beat the charges. For more information or for assistance with your case, reach out to Appelman Law Firm at (952) 224-2277 today.
