How did you celebrate earning your driver’s license? Did you take your family out for ice cream? Did you drive over to a friend’s house? Whatever you did, you probably made a better decision than a German teen did after he earned his driver’s license.
The unnamed 18-year-old was apparently celebrating his newly acquired freedom by driving himself and four friends around town when he decided to put the pedal to the metal. A nearby police officer clocked the teen driving twice the legal posted speed limit, so the teen was stopped and cited. Upon realizing that the teen had only had his driver’s license for a total of 49 minutes, the officer decided to revoke his license for four weeks and issue him a 220 euro fine. The teen will also be forced to take additional driving lessons behind the wheel before he can have his license reinstated.
“Some things hold for eternity… some not even an hour,” German police said in a statement on their Facebook page.
Police believe the driver was trying to impress his friends at the time he was clocked speeding.
Minnesota Driver’s License Suspensions
Minnesota handles things a little differently when it comes to drivers license suspensions. For starters, a person can have their license suspended for 30 days for committing three traffic infractions in a 12-month span, or you can earn a 90-day suspension for committing four traffic violations in the same span. Aside from paying off any outstanding fines, you’ll also have to pay a $20 reinstatement fee to get your license back once your suspension period has ended.
However, you don’t need to have a number of small infractions in order for your license to be suspended. Major traffic violations like DUI or criminal vehicular homicide will result in loss of your driving privileges, but so too can a traffic violation that plenty of people have tried at least once in their life – going more than 100 miles per hour.
If you’re clocked going triple digits, your license can be suspended for 180 days, so resist the urge to see how fast you can go when you hit the open road.
