Breaking Bad is coming to a close in the next few weeks, and millions of fans are wondering if Walter White and Jesse will make it out alive. The pair has had their fair share of ups and downs throughout five tense seasons, but they’ve always avoided getting caught. The same cannot be said for some of the people you’ll read about below.
Real Life Walter White
Few criminals are as similar to Walter White as Stephen Doran, a 57-year-old teacher from Dorchester, Mass.
Although Walter specializes in chemistry, Doran was a math teacher at Match Charter Middle School. He may have been good with numbers, but he should have taken a page out of Heisenberg’s book and done his dirty deeds in a remote location.
Authorities stopped Doran after he had a suspicious package delivered to his school address. After they opened the package, authorities uncovered about $50,000 worth of meth, $10,000 in cash and a scale for measuring the drug.
Why was Doran so deep into the meth business? A specific reason was never given, but some are speculating that Doran was looking for a way to pay his bills after it was revealed he’s been undergoing chemotherapy to treat a cancer diagnosis.
“His life is on the line here literally. This is a man who is being treated for stage 3 cancer at Mass General Hospital,” Doran’s attorney said during an initial hearing.
If convicted, Doran could face up to 20 years in prison.
Methamphysical Education
A physical education teacher from California was arrested earlier this month after she was caught attempting to sell methamphetamine.
Jennifer Krogman, 40, was booked on drug charges after authorities received a tip that the gym teacher was in possession of a small amount of meth and was packaging it to be sold.
Krogman’s moral compass may be broken, but authorities said they didn’t believe Krogman was planning on selling the drugs to any students. They believe she was preparing to mail the drugs to an associate.
Acid Redux
If we learned anything from Season 1 of Breaking Bad, it’s if you’re going to dissolve a body, don’t do it in a bathtub. Hydrofluoric acid is some strong stuff.
Even though he didn’t get away with the crime, it appears a Norwegian man heeded Walter’s advice to make sure you use plastic when attempting to dissolve a body.
Stein Havard Dokset confessed to “accidently killing” his girlfriend during an argument and trying to dissolve her body in acid in his basement bathroom.
According to the police report, Dokset said Rungnapa Suktong died after she fell down a flight of stairs. Dokset then took her body and placed it in a plastic trash bin in his basement. Using a form of acid as an accelerant, Dokset tried to get rid of any evidence of the crime.
Authorities acting on a missing persons report discovered the bin when they searched the home earlier this month. They noticed what they believed to be a hipbone inside the container when it was opened for examination. A test later confirmed that the bones were human, but an official autopsy needs to be conducted to determine if it is Suktong’s body.
Authorities also discovered a firearm and Suktong’s purse during their search.
