2015 is coming to a close, and while we’re looking forward to all the great opportunities 2016 will bring, we want to take a minute to look back at the year that was. We’ve published over 200 blog posts this year, which is part of the reason we were voted the top criminal law blog in Minnesota this year, but we thought it would be fun to pick out our five favorite stories from the past 12 months. So here’s a look at our five favorites, as well as a quick blurb about each blog, but be sure to follow the links to get the full story!
Our Favorite Blogs
5. Drunk Girl Livestreams Her Drive Home….You’ll Never Guess What Happens Next!
Our favorite ridiculous story of the year goes to Whitney Beall, a 23-year-old from Florida who perfectly encapsulated today’s “YOLO” attitude by livestreaming her drunken drive home from the bar. Thankfully, some users who were watching the stream were able to contact area police, who stopped Beall before she could hurt herself or someone else. Runners up in the ridiculous category go to the man who got caught with marijuana in a jar labeled “Not Weed” and the Zamboni driver who earned a mid-game DUI.
4. Physical Control: How You Can Get A DUI Without Driving
This story makes our top five because it was our first attempt at our Whiteboard Talk, where we used some cool technology to explain some common legal issues. Our first Whiteboard Talk explained how you can get a DUI even without driving your car, while our second video took a closer look at what constitutes prostitution. Hopefully we’ll have more of these in 2016!
3. The History of BAC and Drunk Driving Laws in Minnesota
Although we’re criminal defense attorneys who do a lot of work with DUIs and DWIs, we really didn’t know much about the history of DUI laws in Minnesota. That all changed when we published the above post. During that research, we uncovered that DUI laws actually date back more than 100 years here in Minnesota. It’s a pretty informative read, so check it out if you have a few minutes.
2. Giving Back To The Community
Although this wasn’t one of our favorite blogs posts, the event that we talked about was certainly a highlight of of our year. During Our Hearts To Your Soles 2015, we were able to sit down with a handful of attorneys in related fields and share our insights with financially-burdened individuals in the Twin Cities. These people came from all walks of life, and they are always so appreciative to be able to sit down with an attorney and discuss some of their legal concerns without worrying about a bill. It is truly a wonderful event that I look forward to every year. Although we didn’t post a recap of the event, our original post shares some more information about the amazing event. We can’t wait for Our Hearts To Your Soles 2016!
We’re cheating a little bit here. Our favorite post of 2015 is actually a collection of posts. Our favorite posts are informative pieces that address some concerns a lot of first-time offenders have when they are thrown into the legal system. Blogs like “5 Smart Questions To Ask Your DUI Attorney,” “How Hiring An Attorney Can Save You Money,” “How To Fire Your Attorney,” “How A Lawyer Prepares For Trial” and “Is It Worth It To Hire A Lawyer To Contest My Traffic Ticket.” These are our favorite posts, and we hope to write 200 more informative blogs in 2016! If you have questions or legal topics you would like to see covered, tweet us @AppelmanLawFirm or leave us a note in the comments.
Wishing you a wonderful holiday season,
