Every wonder which vehicle is most likely to be transporting a drunk driver? According to a new study, one vehicle stands out from the rest in terms of DUI likelihood.
According to a study by the insurance comparison aggregator Insurify, Ram 2500 drivers are the most likely to be arrested for driving under the influence. To come to this conclusion, Insurify reviewed 2.7 million automobile insurance applications. On these applications, applicants are required to disclose which vehicles are being driven and any moving violations within a set period of time. After looking at all the data, they found that Ram 2500 drivers were most likely to be picked up for DUI. Here’s a closer look at some of the findings:
- For Ram 2500 drivers, there are an average of 45.3 drivers with a DUI on their record per 1,000 applicants.
- The Chevrolet S-10, BMW 4-Series and Audi A4 came in second, third and fourth on the list.
- The vehicle with the fewest DUI-issued owners is the Toyota RAV4, followed by the Hyundai Santa Fe and the Toyota Sienna.
What It All Means
You can see the full top 10 list by clicking here, but one thing is clear – trucks and luxury vehicles dominate this list. Now, you may have some preconceived notions about people that drive big trucks or luxury vehicles, and while we’ve all likely had a run in on the road with a diesel-burning truck or a selfish BMW driver, it’s important to note that this study only looked at all vehicles that a person had access to drive. This is not a clear indication of the exact vehicle that was being driven at the time of the DUI arrest.
With that said, it does seem likely that RAM 2500 and Chevy S-10 drivers should go the extra mile to make some smart decisions behind the wheel. Based on the data, it seems likely that police have more encounters with these vehicles, so police may watch these drivers a little more closely, especially around bar time. If police are looking for an excuse to pull you over, do everything in your power to avoid giving them one, and that includes staying under the legal limit.
