Even the smallest cities are affected by crime, but some areas experience much less than others. Most people believe crime is isolated to bigger cities, but when examined on a per person basis, some larger areas are in fact some of the safer communities.
Whenever lists come out that rank Minnesota cities in an aspect of criminal law, we like to dive into the numbers and statistics. We’ve already shared which Minnesota cities give out the most speeding tickets and which Minnesota counties give out the most DUIs, but today we’re going to look at which cities in Minnesota experience the lowest crime rates.
Crime in Minnesota
To compile the report, SafeWise.com analyzed the most recent FBI Crime Report statistics along with available population data. In an effort to keep the reports as accurate as possible, any cities with a population of fewer than 5,000 people were not included in the report. So without further adieu, here’s a look at the 10 safest cities in Minnesota.
1. St. Joseph: Violent crimes per 1,000: 0.00 – Property crimes per 1,000: 2.99
2. Winona: Violent crimes per 1,000: 0.91 – Property crimes per 1,000: 2.61
3. West Hennepin: Violent crimes per 1,000: 1.09 – Property crimes per 1,000: 6.00
4. Minnetrista: Violent crimes per 1,000: 0.22 – Property crimes per 1,000: 7.36
5. Orono: Violent crimes per 1,000: 0.23 – Property crimes per 1,000: 8.64
6. Chaska: Violent crimes per 1,000: 0.49 – Property crimes per 1,000: 8.70
7. Rosemount: Violent crimes per 1,000: 0.74 – Property crimes per 1,000: 8.71
8. Farmington: Violent crimes per 1,000: 0.71 – Property crimes per 1,000: 8.78
9. Crookston: Violent crimes per 1,000: 2.02 – Property crimes per 1,000: 8.60
