The deadline for the Appelman Law Firm $1,000 Scholarship is fast approaching, so make sure you get your application in by May 31st!
As a criminal defense attorney, my goal is to ensure people can put a conviction behind them and move forward with their life. That’s the exact idea behind the $1,000 Criminal Defense Scholarship. The winner will be someone who has learned from a past mistake and used that knowledge to pursue a career in law. See below for eligibility requirements and application details.
Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for the $1,000 scholarship, prospective applicants must:
- Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
- Have a criminal record (this information will be held in confidence)
- Be enrolled or accepted to an accredited law school within the United States
- Have a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher
Application Details
If you are interested in applying for the $1,000 college scholarship, please submit to the following completed items to ryan@aacriminallaw.
- A completed application, which you can find by clicking here.
- An official copy of a current academic transcript.
- A copy of a police report regarding your criminal record or the crime you’re writing about (this information will be held in confidence).
- An essay of not more than three pages describing your crime, punishment, and how you have changed or overcame your past and what you intend to do in the future as an attorney.
If you are awarded the $1,000 scholarship, you will also need to provide a proof a legal U.S. resident (like a birth certificate, passport, resident card, etc.). The $1,000 scholarship is only to be used for college tuition and/or related expenses, like books. A check for $1000 will be made payable to the winner’s school to cover these expenses and he or she is expected to submit receipts in accordance with IRS regulations.
