For the last few years, we’ve been fortunate enough to be asked if we’d be willing to participate in a local event called Our Hearts To Your Soles. It’s a wonderful event that is put on by my good friend Dr. Lance Silverman, and the goal of the night is to provide footwear, health screenings and other essentials to individuals in our community who may not have access to such opportunities.
The health screenings, flu shots and free Red Wing boots are essentials that not everyone has access to, but we also play a role in providing something that not everyone can get – legal advice. Every year we make ourselves available during the event to answer any legal questions attendees may have, and all our services are provided for free. Whether the individual has questions about where they can legally sleep or panhandle if they don’t have a home or a job, or if they need help with a court summons, we’re more than happy to work with them and the courts to help them in any way we can.
The Our Hearts To Your Soles event is inspiring, because it wouldn’t be possible without so many people and organizations in our community, and what they provide stays right here in our area and is given to those who need it most. As a lawyer, the event is always a rewarding experience, because the people we work with are some of the most grateful clients we’ve ever had the pleasure of helping. They are so thankful for our insights into their situation, and we feel good knowing that they are happy that they finally have a grip on what oftentimes seems like an unmanageable situation.
Oftentimes the poor and the disenfranchised are unjustly punished by the court system, or they simply get stuck in a downward cycle that they simply do not have the means to pull themselves up from. This event helps to ensure they have a voice and can get the help they need to help themselves. We look forward to the event every year, and we can’t wait to return again in 2019. Thank you to the other law firms, including David Bailly of David Bailly LTD. and Douglass Turner and Chris Kalla of Hanbery & Turner for also coming out to support the event. See you all at next year’s event!
