Former All-Pro Minnesota Viking Adrian Peterson was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated earlier this morning in the Twin Cities.
According to the police report, the 40-year-old Peterson was spotted at 3:20 a.m. by a State Patrol trooper in Richfield. The officer clocked Peterson traveling at a speed of 83 miles per hours in a 55 mile per hour zone. After a short conversation with Peterson, officers checked his blood alcohol concentration with a preliminary breath test, which revealed that he had a BAC of 0.14%, which is nearly twice the legal limit of 0.08%.
Peterson was officially booked around 5:15 a.m. on a misdemeanor count of fourth-degree driving while impaired and is still in custody at the time of writing. Peterson had attended the Vikings draft party on Thursday night at U.S. Bank Stadium in downtown Minneapolis, and it seems likely that the party ended up spilling over into the early morning hours for Peterson.
Troubling History
This isn’t the first time that Peterson has run afoul with law enforcement around the Twin Cities:
- In 2009, he was pulled over on Crosstown Hwy 62 in Edina for going 109 mph in a 55 mph, and he eventually pleaded guilty to driving 99 mph.
- In 2010, Peterson was stopped by police in Eden Prairie and cited for traveling 53 mph in a 35 mph zone.
- In 2011, Peterson was stopped in Eden Prairie for not wearing his seat belt during a statewide “Click It Or Ticket” campaign.
Peterson sure likes to travel fast around the Twin Cities, and while that’s certainly a danger to others, at least he hadn’t done so while intoxicated, until today. We’re hoping the former Viking gets the help he needs to move past this incident and make better choices in the future.
