Just when you think you’ve heard everything when it comes to DUI arrests, someone from Florida has to go and do something like this. According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, a 48-year-old man chugged a beer during his DUI traffic stop.
According to the police report, authorities attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Daryl Royal Riedel last week. When the officer stepped out of his vehicle, Riedel hit the gas and attempted to flee, later saying that he was scared. The deputy pursued, and Riedel stopped his car a little while later. Before the deputy could approach the vehicle, Riedel reportedly open his door, exited his vehicle, and chugged a beer that he was holding.
Stupid Drunk Driving Arrests
That was the icing on the cake for officers, who placed Riedel under arrest. He was formally charged with felony DUI, fleeing from a deputy, driving with a suspended license and failing to submit to a breath test. This is nothing new for Riedel, who has three prior convictions for DUI, and had a fourth charge pending from last year. The latest slew of charges mean he’ll almost certainly end up spending some time in jail, and he has a long road ahead of him if he wants to get his license reinstated.
Riedel is currently being held in jail without bond, and records don’t indicate that he has hired legal counsel.
