We are always looking for different ways to give back to our community during the holiday season, and we are proud to say we were able to do that last week during the annual Our Hearts To Your Soles 2017 event.
For those of your unfamiliar with Our Hearts To Your Soles, it is an annual event in the Twin Cities that provides footwear and other services to homeless and financially-burdened individuals in the area. Avery and other members from his firm have been helping in the “Ask A Lawyer” section, where attendees can come and get answers to any legal questions or matters they might have, free of charge.
The best part about working the Ask A Lawyer section is that the vast majority of attendees are truly thankful for the advice we provide. We understand that criminal charges can be stressful, so we’re never surprised if a client lashes out or gets frustrated with the process, but that’s never been our experience with Our Hearts To Your Soles. Everyone we spoke to seemed happy and relieved to be able to receive free legal advice.
Why We Volunteer
When it comes to the homeless and financially-burdened members of our community, oftentimes a small legal matter can spiral out of control. A $50 fine for loitering or another minor charge may be impossible for that person to pay, so extra fees get tacked on and eventually a warrant may be issued for their arrest. A minor problem can turn into a major issue, which is why we like to volunteer at the event.
We always get a wide range of questions, and we do our best to answer them fully and to the best of our ability. We try to point people in the right direction, and they can always reach back out to us if they have any questions. It’s truly a helpful and rewarding experience for both parties.
Thank you to all the other lawyers who worked in the Ask A Lawyer section, it was great meeting and working with you all. Hopefully I’ll see you there again next year, because we’re already looking forward to Our Hearts To Your Soles 2018!
