According to the Minnesota Department of Public Safety (DPS), failure of the breath test or refusal to submit to testing, results in the revocation of your driving privileges.
Data privacy law prohibits anyone else (such as your attorney) from contacting DPS on your behalf. Therefore you must call the Minnesota DPS directly at 651-296-2025 to gather information about your driving privileges. Due to the large number of calls they receive, the best time to reach DPS is in the morning. You will be asked to identify yourself and provide your driver’s license number. Be sure to take notes during the conversation and ask the following questions:
- How long is my revocation period?
- What date am I eligible for a limited driver’s license?
- What date am I eligible for full reinstatement?
- What are the exact conditions I must satisfy to obtain my reinstatement?
Driver’s License Reinstatement Requirements
Prior to the DPS issuing you a work permit or driver’s license, you must take the DWI written exam, pay the reinstatement fees, and apply for a new Minnesota driver’s license. This can be completed at any of the driver exam stations. Find your nearest exam station here.
Remember do NOT drive to the exam station if you are currently revoked. It is likely you will be charged with another offense if you are caught.
