Fellas, if you’re going to go out and have a few beers with your friends, make sure you plan a sober ride home before the night begins. Also, be considerate of what clothes you wear, because if you end up making a poor decision and getting arrested, your mugshot might just go viral.
A Connecticut man was arrested early Monday on a charge of operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs while wearing a shirt that read “Hold My Beer and Watch This.” If you’re thinking this story sounds familiar, it’s because it’s the second time in a short period that we’ve written about someone getting arrested for DUI while wearing an ironic shirt.
Poor Choices Lead To DUI
The man in the mugshot is Harrison Wootton, and he was arrested by police after crashing into a stone wall in the town of Putnam shortly after 1:00 am on Monday morning. Police arrived on the scene and asked Wootten to submit to a sobriety test, which he failed. He was placed under arrest and charged with:
- Operating under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
- Operating an unregistered motor vehicle.
- Failure to have insurance.
- Misuse of license plates.
- Failure to drive in the proper lane.
Wootten was eventually released after posting a $500 bond and will have his first appearance in court on April 20.
Making Good Decisions Behind The Wheel
We always stress the importance of making good decisions when it comes to drinking and driving. Always make a plan before you start drinking, and consider having a backup plan in place in the event you consume more alcohol than you anticipated.
The weather is getting warmer and the nights are getting longer which means more people will be out at bars at later hours, and we always see an uptick in DUI arrests between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Do not become another statistic. Limit your alcohol intake, grab a cab or an Uber, or ride with a designated driver if you plan on drinking. Nobody plans on getting a DUI, but “I didn’t mean to” or “I didn’t realize I was over the limit” are two excuses that will not hold up in court. We are here to help you if you get arrested, but in a perfect world, you’d never need our services.
So please, make a promise to make good decisions when you’re out at a friend’s barbecue or catching up with classmates at a reunion this summer. And whatever you do, don’t wear a stupid shirt that references alcohol, because you could go viral for all the wrong reasons for one dumb mistake!
