DUI versus DWI

The non-legal acronyms: DWI and DUI are commonly used with interchangeable and virtually identical meanings. The term DWI (Driving While Intoxicated) is frequently used to imply the same as the term DUI (Driving under the Influence): that someone is drunk driving. Although, DWI and DUI are common social terms employed to describe driving under the influence offenses, Minnesota Law (Chapter 169A) defines DWI as "Driving While Impaired."

Some states use various other terms to describe their drunk driving offenses. For instance, Wisconsin employs the acronym OUIL, or Operating under the Influence of an Intoxicating Liquor, while Michigan, use the term OUI, to mean Operating under the Influence.

Needless to say, the aggressive MN DWI attorneys at Appelman Law Firm, LLC. are not confused by any terms used to describe the various Minnesota DWI violations our clients are confronted with.
